Sick Policy

Children should not come to school when experiencing any of the following:

Any Contagious Illness

Return when no longer contagious. 

Fever

101° F or greater, return after fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing drugs, or a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious and references the date the child may return to school.

Diarrhea

2 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period, return after diarrhea free for 24 hours or doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Vomiting

2 or more occasions, return after no vomiting for 24 hours or the child has a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Undiagnosed rash

Body rash that is not caused by diapering, heat, or medication, return after the rash is completely gone or doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Sore throat

Is associated with fever or swollen glands in the neck, return after symptom-free for 24 hours or the child has a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Severe cough

Coughing leads to repeated gagging, vomiting, or difficulty breathing. Return after the condition has significantly minimalized or the child has a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Conjunctivitis (Pink eye)

Pink or red eye(s) that may be swollen with white or yellow discharge. Return after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment.

Scabies, head lice, nits

Tiny insects living on human scalp and/or hair shaft. Return after treatment and removal of all bugs and nits.

Mouth sores

Multiple sores in the mouth with drooling. Return with a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious, and offering the date when the child may return to school.

Ring worm

Circular fungal infection of the scalp or skin. Return after treatment by a healthcare provider has begun.

Impetigo

Skin infection mostly seen on face with bumps or large patchy area. Return after 24 hours of treatment.

Hand, Foot and Mouth

Rash is mostly seen on face, hands, bottom, and feet. Return after fever-free for 24 hours. Rash must be free from spreading or the child has a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.

Other

Any contagious disease. Return with a doctor’s note stating that the condition is not contagious with reference to the date the child may return to school.
